Rowan's Law

At the Woodbridge Figure Skating Club (WFSC), the safety and well-being of our skaters is our top priority. We are committed to supporting a safe sport environment and promoting concussion awareness in accordance with Rowan’s Law.

What is Rowan’s Law?

Rowan’s Law was established in memory of Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player from Ontario who tragically passed away in 2013 due to multiple concussions. The law was created to improve concussion safety and awareness in all sports and physical activities. Under Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, all sports organizations in Ontario are required to:

   –   Provide concussion awareness resources to athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, and officials.

   –   Ensure that all participants review and confirm their understanding of these materials before participating in any sports activities each year.

   –   Implement a Concussion Code of Conduct outlining expectations for safe play and reporting of head injuries.

Before participating in any WFSC skating programs, all skaters, parents/guardians (if under 18), coaches, and volunteers must:

   –   Review the appropriate Ontario Government Concussion Awareness Resource (based on age group).

   –   Read and sign the WFSC Concussion Code of Conduct each skating season.

   –   Report any suspected head injury to a coach or WFSC official immediately and follow return-to-skate guidelines before resuming participation.
